Bikram Yoga was suggested to me by one of my sons teachers when talking one day about my ongoing problems with my neck as she suffered the same problems and said that doing Bikram Yoga was helping her. I had been going to the Osteopath regularly for the past 2 years and having regular acupuncture. I had also been diagnosed with depression and I just knew I needed to do something to get myself out of the black hole I felt I was falling into. If someone had said to me that I would be doing Bikram Yoga in a room heated to 37 degrees 4 times a week and it would be life changing for me a year ago I would have thought they were crazy although I would have been a bit curious as I didnt even know it existed! I was very tentative about hurting my neck even more when I first started but within a few weeks I was sleeping alot better and my neck wasnt giving me anymore pain!
For me, I just love the hot room... it is like a very warm hug. 90 min to focus on nothing but myself ! Its so challenging, never easy although it does get a little bit easier the more you do it. I also find it relaxing at the same time - strange I know! The Caloundra studio is a welcoming safe place where I have found all the teachers to be very friendly and they really care about how you are going with your practise and happy to talk about it and ways to help you get better. Not only is it making me stronger and definitely more flexible while toning my whole body it has worked wonders on my mind. I am 38 and have 3 boys under 11, all at school now and I work fulltime and I was just at the stage that I needed something else. I have always been a bit restless and found it hard to sleep at night. I always played sports and enjoyed going to the gym however nothing makes me feel as good as my Bikram Yoga practise does everytime I get on my mat. I feel refreshed after every class and it has definitely improved my ability to concentrate and focus. I dont feel as stressed anymore and therefore my family benefit greatly as well. I have found my calm and I am happy!

My wife , Gaylene , convinced me to try yoga . I had always thought that yoga in general would be a waste of time due to my natural lack of flexibility and balance . As I wouldn’t be able to do many of the postures I thought it would be boring . Despite the first Bikram Yoga class being a complete disaster , it certainly wasn’t boring and I did experience a very real sense of well being afterwards.
Wanting to do something to improve my flexibility and fitness which was also pretty bad , I persevered for the next 12 months . Although still not really enjoying the classes, I did become noticeably aware of amazing benefits – a dramatic increase in flexibility and fitness , being happy for no reason , feeling many years younger , having much more energy , clearer thinking , losing judgement of myself and others , inner peace and calmness , and looking forward to life in general .These days I love going to my own 90 minutes away from the stresses of life .
We are very lucky at Caloundra – Jeanne is very innovative and has expanded the class timetable and payment options (I am on a yearly unlimited plan which makes each class very economical ) . We have a wide variety of very nice teachers . I am so glad that I made the effort to keep coming . Bikram Yoga with its challenges both physically and mentally has been tremendously beneficial to me and the Caloundra studio is just great .

On a recent visit to Australia, I was convinced by the friend that I was visiting to try Bikram Yoga. I consider myself an all round sportsman and practiced many sports my entire life including surfing, snowboarding, soccer, golf and I recently took up tennis. Despite my experience with sports and fitness, nothing could prepare me for the experience and how I would feel after taking my first class at Bikram Yoga Caloundra.
In a word, it was awesome. During the 90 minute class, I had the chance to work on the connection between body and soul all while pushing every part of my body to its limits. It is difficult to explain to anyone who hasn’t taken a class, but to put it simply, my recommendation is to just do it. You might love it or hate it, but regardless, it will be doing both your body and mind a favour.
Since returning to Spain, I have become a member of the Bikram Yoga Academy in Barcelona and I am practicing on a regular basis. It helps to keep me fit and to disconnect from the stressful life of working in marketing for a large company in a big city.

I have been doing Bikram yoga for about 8 months. I average 2 practices per week, but I really notice the difference if I get 3 days a week.
I had previously been practicing Iyenga yoga with a great teacher in Alice Springs. I started doing yoga to manage lower back pain. The equation is easy for me yoga=no sore back, however I did not practice myself at home unless I was in pain and even then, I would only do individual postures rather than a routine.
After having a baby, I stopped practicing and moved to Caloundra. After slipping a disk in my lower back (twice), I looked for yoga in the area. As there was no Iyenga I tried a number of other practices but none suited. Bikram was one of the first I came across on the internet but I did not try it, thinking Hot Yoga was for crazy people.
After a number of months I was getting desperate and since my son had started day care, I realised that his care days happen to coincide with the times that Bikram was offered during the day. So I bit the bullet and went along.
It was fine. I did not mind the heat but was very resistant. For a couple of months I went and complained every time. Then one day I thought to myself if I hate it so much why keep going. From then on I have quite enjoyed it.
I have been back to my Alice Springs classes and found my postures have improved in a short amount of time.
It is great to have so many classes available. I work for myself and find I have very productive working days the day after class, which is a great incentive to go.
Sometimes I feel strong, sometimes I can breath calmly and freely, occasionally I have good balance, never all three together but practice makes perfect :)
I still think Hot Yoga is for crazy people and have happily added my name to the list.
